little in this dry day
draws any wealth from my thoughts —
hope and wish leave me empty-handed;
instead it is the night sky
with its low hanging, chattering moon,
stars deeper than oceans,
tap, tap, tapping on my mind
to ask for my attention,
nudging it to stir and blossom
After all these years, I’m still surprised by the directions my thoughts take while gazing into the night sky. Points of light may lead me to speculation on events and circumstances elsewhere – whether light years away or just around the world – or they may lead me in a more abstract direction, as I connect the dots of events in my own life.

This is so concentrated and beautiful–the night/day, work/freedom, drought/blossom. The rhythm and tone are just perfect.

Thank you! I have been struggling with a bit of a block — and coughing and sleeping. Thanks for the encouragement!

So glad this got you thinking. I keep expecting that I should be able to write about everyday things, but my mind only seems to get moving once I really escape — on the road, looking into the night, walking through the woods — which your point out so well.
Thanks so much for sharing your words!
