April 23

Watercolor, Jenifer Cartland, 2025
Blackberries spill
and bleed across dry paper ---
seem to foretell
all my carelessnesses,
all my seasonal longings.

  1. This made me smile, too, because the detail of the painting and word choices are anything but careless. The first image of the berries spilling their “ink” on the page, so good

    • Thank you! I did this painting in a class last fall, and when my teacher saw my website with the poems this month, he said, ‘where are the berries?’ He was so offended. 🙂 I had to explain it is hard to come up with berry-inspired poems. Oh, well. He is happy now.
