The fragments of your hair,
having shifted pigment and mixtures of pigments
to now solid gray,
pile in the kitchen trash can
on top of his
soft, shimmering dark gold chunks —
attesting of their past
and of things to come.

Rather clever this, past and future. Well done and thank you for joining in with us at Bardo.

This is so effective. I love the contrast both in color and age. A great message in so few words. Thank you.

The imagery here – wonderful. The idea of aging marked within “pigments” — not just saying the “gray” alone. And next to the soft shimmering dark gold chunks. Beautiful placement of age next to youth in concrete details. And then, from the beautiful to the mundane, the kitchen trash can. Really such a wonderful poem in so few words.

Thanks so much. I have been cutting my husband’s and boys’ hair for many years, from when the boys were tiny. It is remarkable how the passage of time is reflected in changes in routine things you don’t even notice. And how it just hits you one day that 20 years went by!
So glad you enjoyed this one.
