Three haiku from a rain forest

1.

Forest floor beneath,
suspended within the green,
damp air holding me.

2.

I skirt among leaves,
dancing through branches and rain,
light waking the mist.

3.

To live in the trees
between damp earth and veiled sky
is enough — more so.

Could not focus much today – on a college visit with my son (St John of Blackberry Jam) – but I was able to squeeze out a couple poems on how incredibly wonderful the forest was. Thank goodness for trees!

  1. Well, if this is “squeezing out”….wow! I especially love
    “I skirt among leaves,
    dancing through branches and rain,
    light waking the mist.”

It reminds me how I felt walking on the Old Railway Trail in Bermuda this February — when my shadow was dancing in front of me. The sun creating patterns on the ground because the breeze is blowing the canopy of trees above. Reminds me of my “Wood’s Desire” and “Shadow of Mine:.

Enjoying your work so very much!

    • Nature just always makes me stop and go ‘huh?!’ Just like the shadows you saw on your walk. I think in a previous life I was a forest elf or something. 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind encouragement.

      • Forest elf, eh? Yes, I always feel those paths are magical, stuff of the imagination. For me, I’m quite sure in my previous life I was the equivalent of a Rockette! 🙂
