Leaves begin to shiver
as if the rain has come already.
The branches toss -- worried,
varied, attentive,
trying to anticipate --
nothing, no rain yet.
A timeless hush now falls
while the wind turns
its attention elsewhere,
and we indeed hold our breath
with the trees,
wait upon wait
for the rain to pour down
and wash us all.
Waiting for rain

This feels very deep, and works on multiple levels. Nicely done.

Love how the “wind turns” just as the poem does…and “wait upon wait”
