This morning looking out the window
for our trash cans,
because my mind runs away
to all the small things
on days like these,
my eyes settled on a blue jay --
or perhaps his eyes drew mine --
as he took flight into the birch
to meet his mate.
His boldness
made me aware again of doubt,
and of all things reshaped by boldness,
hope, and the unnamable sigh
uttered when witnessing
a blue jay flutter up a birch
to meet another.

Love this, Jeni. Love especially the phrase “into the birch.” I know why but I can’t explain why. :)

The universe seems to be shouting at us sometimes, however silently 🙂
I have been thinking about you! And reading a book called The Way of the Fearless Writer. And gathering the courage to begin posting here again…
Hope you are well. It was so wonderful to see your poem pop up in my reader after all this time.

So well put. Thank you. Yes. The world has its say in words or not.
I have been wondering what you are up to as well, jealously imagining you flying around the world.
Thank you for the book recommendation. Why are we writers so incredibly bashful? I was reading about Karen Blixen today. All of her education was related to art because educated families only offered that to their girls. And she appears to have had so much confidence from early on. It made me wonder how our many more opportunities get in the way of more foundational self-expression. 🤷♀️
Please start sharing your wonderful poems again! I can’t wait to read them.

Well we did spend last winter in Europe but have been in the Southwest for several months now. Currently under 3 feet of snow in Flagstaff!
Yes, one of my takeaways from the book so far is to not worry about the outcome of the writing. Just explore…
